This leads to improvements in production yield and product quality, as well as a reduction of raw material wastage.

Office automation essentially came about with the advent, proliferation and widespread use of personal computers (PC) in the workplace. The backbone of office automation lies in the Local Area Network (LAN), which allows users to transmit data, mail and even voice across the global system of INTERconnected computer NETwork (INTERNET).

Office automation refers to the various computer hardware and software used to digitally create, collect, store, manipulate, and relay office information needed for conducting business.

It also includes activities such as raw data storage, electronic transfer, and the management of electronic business information, which helps to optimise efficiency and improve productivity.
