 Industrial Automation

Industrial automation is essentially about using computer technology and software engineering to automate manufacturing processes.

By using control systems such as Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), the accurate measurement of process variables allows for better production control. This leads to improvements in production yield and product quality, as well as a reduction of raw material wastage.

By reducing human intervention in the production process, industrial plants are therefore able to operate safely as well as more efficiently.

  Factory Automation

A key to manufacturing competitiveness in the semiconductor manufacturing industry lies in optimising the utilisation of capital-intensive manufacturing equipment in the facility.

The widespread adoption of Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) systems to boost productivity, improve yields and lower fabrication costs has led to a corresponding requirement to standardise equipment communication interface and factory automation software.

When equipment makers implement software in accordance with SEMI’s Equipment Communication Standards (SECS) and adopt definitions in the Generic Equipment Model (GEM) standard, it produces economic benefits for both device manufacturers and equipment suppliers.

  Office Automation

Office automation essentially came about with the advent, proliferation and widespread use of personal computers (PC) in the workplace. The backbone of office automation lies in the Local Area Network (LAN), which allows users to transmit data, mail and even voice across the global system of INTERconnected computer NETwork (INTERNET).

Office automation refers to the various computer hardware and software used to digitally create, collect, store, manipulate, and relay office information needed for conducting business.

It also includes activities such as raw data storage, electronic transfer, and the management of electronic business information, which helps to optimise efficiency and improve productivity.
